Jacob Steinberg Provides New Update Amid Reports That West Ham Have Already Held Talks With Moyes’ Successor

West Ham have not offered a contract to former Wolves head coach Julen Lopetegui, according to The Guardian reporter Jacob Steinberg.

There were reports in the Italian media suggesting that the Hammers are in advanced talks with the Spaniard to replace David Moyes as manager at the end of the season. However, taking to X, Steinberg denied those claims:

As Steinberg points out, though, the prospect of Moyes staying at the London Stadium beyond the summer looks remote following Sunday’s 5-2 loss to Crystal Palace.

The Irons boss was scathing in his criticism of the players after their “atrocious” first-half performance which saw the team go 4-0 down after 31 minutes.

The manner of the defeat has led to many supporters calling for Moyes to leave the London club when his contract expires in June.

West Ham have offered Moyes a new contract

Back in February, Moyes confirmed that the club had proposed extending his stay as manager, but he had not yet decided on whether he wanted to remain head coach.

After crashing out of the Europa League last week, and following recent league results, the Hammers’ board may well consider withdrawing the offer.

Who will be considered as potential contenders to replace Moyes?

Lopetegui is expected to be among the candidates that West Ham will consider for the job, along with the likes of former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper and ex-Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel has also been heavily linked in recent weeks, with it being claimed that he has a good relationship with technical Tim Steidten, but Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors for the German in recent days. Based on Steinberg’s remarks, the Irons will take their time to assess their options.
