West Ham Will Make Second Attempt To Sign Argentinian International With £12.5m Release Clause

West Ham will make a second bid to sign River Plate right-back Gonzalo Montiel in the summer, according to La Pagina Millonaria.

The Argentinian website claims that the Hammers have retained an interest in the 23-year-old after having a loan offer rejected in the January transfer window.

The London club did not end up signing a new fullback last month, and with Pablo Zabaleta leaving the London Stadium at the end of the season, a new addition to the squad will be needed in order to provide competition for Ryan Fredericks.

Montiel does have a release clause set at €15m (£12.5m) but, oddly, La Pagina Millonaria report that this fee rises to €20m (16.7m) in the last ten days of the summer window. The Irons may, therefore, want to get this deal done early on so they don’t have to pay a premium for the Argentinian international.

However, they will not be the only European club interested in the defender this time around, with Roma and Southampton also reportedly keen on the player.
