REPORT: Ex-Manchester United Coach ‘Under Consideration’ To Succeed Moyes At West Ham

Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna is in the frame to become the next West Ham manager, according to TEAMtalk.

The website claims that the former Manchester United coach is “under consideration” as the Hammers eye potential replacements for David Moyes.

McKenna is said to have won himself plenty of admirers among the London club’s hierarchy, following his impressive spell in charge of Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys could potentially seal back-to-back promotions in the coming weeks. McKenna has guided his team to 3rd in the Championship table.

If Ipswich win their final three games, they will seal automatic promotion to the Premier League, just a year after being in League One.

What are the chances of McKenna being appointed as Moyes’ replacement?

Ipswich will be very reluctant to lose the 37-year-old, who has worked wonders since his arrival at Portman Road in December 2021.

McKenna will be 100% focused on the club’s promotion battle and if his team do return to the English top flight for the first time in 22 years, he could be tempted to stay.

However, another factor to consider is that the Northern Irishman reportedly has a £4m release clause in his contract, and it remains to be seen if West Ham would be tempted to trigger it.

Who are the other candidates for the West Ham job?

It has been confirmed that the Irons have held discussions with Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim but the Portuguese coach is not thought to be interested in taking the role at the London Stadium.

Ex-Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is also a strong candidate following talks, alongside Lille head coach Paulo Fonseca and Hansi Flick. It is believed that Fulham’s Marco Silva, Burnley’s Vincent Kompany, ex-Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper, Wolves’ Gary O’Neil and Middlesbrough’s Michael Carrick will be considered for interviews as well.
