West Ham fans campaign to give young striker first-team call-up

West Ham United fans believe youngster Xande Silva should be given a chance in the first-team after his brilliant start to the Premier League 2 season.

Silva joined the Hammers in the summer from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes, and has settled quickly into life at his new club.

The 21-year-old striker has netted five goals in his first three Premier League 2 games, leading to a nomination for a the division’s Player of the Month award.

While Silva and the U23’s have enjoyed a positive start to the season however, Manuel Pellegrini’s first-team, and particularly the strikers, have not so.

The Hammers currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table, having lost all four of their top flight games so far, and have managed two goals – both coming from Marko Arnautovic.

The club’s other match-fit strikers Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez have failed to find the net so far, while club record signing Felipe Anderson has also drawn a blank in front of goal.

West Ham travel to Everton in a fortnight’s time, before welcoming Chelsea and Manchester United to the London Stadium in what is set to be another tough month for Pellegrini’s men.

And with the Argentine’s current formula not working, could it be time to shake up the applecart? The West Ham fans think so, and they know just the boy to do it …
