West Ham are one of the teams involved in the battle to sign Girona attacking midfielder Portu, according to reports in Spain.

The 27-year-old is believed to have agreed a move to Real Sociedad but the Basque team currently don’t have the €10million (£8.9m) needed to complete the deal.

They are waiting to get some finances from the sell-on clause in Antoine Griezmann’s prospective move away from Atletico Madrid, or through the sale of Juanmi to Real Betis.

If those deals don’t happen, though, it could allow the Hammers and other clubs to step back into the fray. Girona have reportedly received offers from 13 different clubs including Brighton, Villarreal and Celta Vigo.

Whether Portu will hold out for a move to Real Sociedad, we shall have to wait and see. He moved to Girona on a free transfer from Albacete three years ago and has become an important first-team player.

The midfielder scored ten goals last season, as well as contributing three assists in 37 appearances.
