West Ham In Talks To Sign £16m Rated Gomes Alternative From Greece

West Ham are in discussions with Olympiakos over signing Kostas Fortounis, according to the Sun.

The newspaper reports that the Hammers are looking at the 26-year-old as a possible alternative to Andre Gomes.

Fortounis is believed to be available for £16m, and with West Ham having already had an £18m bid turned down by Barcelona for Gomes, the Greek international is seen as a cheaper option.

The midfielder has had a very good season for Olympiakos, having scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in 43 appearances.

Fortounis’s ability to score and create goals are in stark contrast to Gomes, who managed just one goal for Everton during his loan spell in the Premier League.

Of course, the Greek Super League is not of the same standard, but West Ham sporting director Mario Husillos will have first-hand knowledge of Fortounis’s qualities after working for Olympiakos at the back end of 2017 before moving to Malaga.
