Roshane Thomas Highlights West Ham Star’s One Shortcoming Which “Lets Him Down”

The Athletic‘s West Ham correspondent Roshane Thomas has been critical of forward Michail Antonio’s finishing ability following the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

The 29-year-old missed a number of gilt-edged chances during the game at the Emirates, and Thomas feels it is an area that the winger must improve upon:

“Antonio needs to convert those chances. We all know he’s a threat going forward but it’s his inconsistency in front of goal that lets him down.”

He has played as a right-back, a winger and a centre-forward in his career so it is unsurprising that his finishing is slightly underdeveloped compared to other aspects of his game.

Antonio has scored just twice this campaign, although there have been mitigating circumstances considering the number of injuries he has sustained, with hamstring problems having limited his game time.

However, the most he has ever scored in the Premier League is nine, which came three years ago. Considering what else he offers the team, in terms of energy, power and work rate, it is hard to be too critical of him.
