Playmaker FC Pundits Debate Whether Finishing Seventh Is Like Winning The League For The Likes Of West Ham

With the top six now 11 points away from the chasing pack, the race to finish seventh is looking like the only incentive for clubs like West Ham sitting in midtable.

Considering the strength of the Premier League’s leading clubs, the question has been asked whether finishing seventh is like winning a trophy. Most of these fans disagree, with many believing a memorable cup run is more important for those lower down the table than finishing higher up the league:

The finances of the Premier League make staying in it a massive priority for those clubs not competing for the title. Although West Ham fans, like many others, would love the Hammers to win a trophy, keeping the club’s top-flight status will always trump a cup run.

Irons supporters don’t have to look too far back to remember that relegation is always a distinct possibility, especially if player recruitment is not handled well.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has done a decent job getting West Ham to 10th place, but he will want to finish the season strongly to secure a top-half finish.
