West Ham could yet replace David Moyes with Rafa Benitez in a bid to “save them” from relegation, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Hammers are currently in the dropzone and, while Brown believes the London club may try and keep faith with Moyes, he doesn’t rule out Benitez being parachuted in for the last couple of months of the season:

“It’s possible that West Ham might attract someone like Rafa Benitez, perhaps, to come and try and save them in this situation, but I think there’s a high cost to doing that kind of thing and it looks to me like West Ham will try and muddle on with David Moyes until the end of the season now.”

Benitez has managed four English teams with a decent track record of success. At Liverpool, he won the Champions League and finished second in the Premier League. In a brief stint as Chelsea’s interim manager, he lifted the Europa League.

The Spaniard’s three-year spell at Newcastle was more of a mixed bag. He was relegated in his first season before bringing the Magpies back up at the first time of asking and securing two midtable finishes.

While Benitez did return to the dugout with Everton, his controversial tenure at Goodison Park was very brief, lasting just over six months.
