‘He Could Walk Into Any Team’ Former West Ham Favourite Gives Verdict On Midfield General With Move To Premier League Rivals A Possibility

Former West Ham United striker Teddy Sheringham gave Declan Rice a glowing review after England’s 2-1 victory over Italy – but also speculated that he may end up elsewhere in the not-too-distant future.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Sheringham said: “You put him up against other top players and the complete midfield player would be able to defend, tackle, run forward but score goals as well.

‘If you add a couple of goals to Declan’s game, maybe not a couple, if you add six or seven goals to Declan Rice’s game with what he’s got at the moment all of a sudden you’re talking about an absolute world beater of a player.

‘Wherever he goes he’s going to make that team a better team. Maybe Casemiro is in that role at Manchester United so perhaps they don’t need him.

“But he would definitely make Arsenal a better team. I don’t like to say it but they’re already good enough this season and I don’t want to see Declan go there because he will make them a better team. He could walk into any team.”

Rice has been linked with a host of clubs in recent times, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea among them. His time at West Ham seems to be limited – but the Hammers aren’t prepared to part with their key player without a considerable fee.

In the game against Italy on Thursday evening, Rice was absolutely outstanding. He guarded England’s backline ferociously, picked out some clever passes and capped off his stellar performance with a richly-deserved goal.

It was a solid return to form for the Three Lions. Additionally, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane also broke the England goalscoring record, beating out Wayne Rooney’s old record of 53.
