Hammers to re-join race for Anderlecht star this summer

West Ham will go in again for Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker this summer after narrowly missing out on him during the January transfer window, reports the Evening Standard.

The Hammers were heavily linked with a move for the highly rated midfielder last month, however left it late to put in a bid for the 22-year-old.

Dendoncker was understood to be subject to a last minute approach from the London club, and despite reportedly being keen on making the switch to the London Stadium, the Hammers’ fell short of Anderlecht’s valuation.

The Belgian club value Dendoncker at around £20 million – a figure West Ham were thought to have fell significantly short of.

Despite missing out on the Belgium international however, it is thought West Ham will make an approach for the player again come the end of the season as manager David Moyes – who is an admirer of the Anderlecht star – looks to bolster his options in midfield.

The Hammers completed the loan-signing of Joao Mario from Inter Milan during January, however still want further additions in the summer.

Watford are also understood to be watching the player’s situation.

Dendoncker, a defensive midfielder, has made 30 appearances for Anderlecht this season already and will be looking to be included in Roberto Martinez’s World Cup squad this summer.
