Felipe Anderson hails ‘wonderful’ time at West Ham so far

West Ham United record signing Felipe Anderson has insisted that he is loving life at the club so far having joined from Lazio in the summer.

The Hammers forked out over £40m for his services during the transfer window, making him the most expensive player at the club – who were extremely active in the market all summer.

West Ham have had a difficult start to life this season, losing all three of their opening three games. But the spirits are still high in the camp, as Manuel Pellegrini begins work on getting the club back to where they should be in the league.

Anderson has described his time in East London as ‘wonderful’ so far, saying that it is better than he expected.

The 25-year-old told ESPN Brasil: “It has been wonderful [since I arrived at West Ham]. It’s being better than I expected because I always believed it was going to be the best place to play football.

“Since I arrived, that’s been confirmed. I was very well welcomed by the new teammates, the manager and the whole club. I’m very happy here.

“[Being the club record signing] shows that they have confidence in your football and your work. That gives you more confidence to work. Knowing that everyone trusts you and your talent is something that everyone likes. I hope to return that confidence to prove my work on the pitch.”

The Brazilian follows a number of South American stars to have joined the Hammers over the years, most notably Argentine duo Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano who famously signed back in 2006.

Anderson revealed that the pair, along with Paulo Di Canio, are inspirations to him and part of the reason he chose to join the Hammers this summer.

“Since I was a kid I knew that this [the Premier League] was the most important championship,” the Brazilian added.

“Then when I started playing all the players said that it was the best, the most difficult, the most competitive. I wanted to come here to be among the best. [I already knew many things about West Ham] I was following Tevez, Mascherano … I also followed Di Canio who played here a long time ago.

“I always followed the English championship a lot so when they told me about the possibility of coming here I did not think twice. I followed players like [Thierry] Henry, who made history here. When I was young, I would watch them and then Tevez, who did what he did and became an idol. I dream of reaching that kind of level.”
