West Ham Offered Second Chance To Sign The Next De Bruyne After Failing To Land Him Last Summer

West Ham could be offered AC Milan attacking midfielder Charles De Ketelaere in exchange for Gianluca Scamacca, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Belgian, who has been compared to a young Kevin De Bruyne, has struggled since moving to Serie A for £29m last summer.

De Ketelaere has made 35 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri but he has not scored a single goal, and he could be allowed to leave the San Siro after just one season.

Coincidentally, the 22-year-old’s agent Tom De Mul revealed back in August that the Hammers were interested prior to his move to Milan, along with Newcastle, Arsenal and Leeds:

“West Ham, Newcastle, Arsenal have all followed Charles but they never pushed through. Even Barcelona followed him for a long time, but I didn’t think that was the right step. Financially, Leeds would have been the best option. For Club Brugge, for Charles, for us. But Charles wanted to wait a little longer. When Charles felt that Milan were 100 per cent serious things started to turn.”

In terms of Scamacca, a return to Italy looks inevitable for the striker. Since moving from Sassuolo for £35.5m at the start of the season, the 24-year-old has struggled for form and fitness. He has now undergone knee surgery and he is unlikely to play again this campaign.
