New Twist In West Ham’s Pursuit Of Champions League Winning Manager

Thomas Tuchel is “unlikely” to be interested in managing West Ham, according to the Daily Mail.

Last week, it was reported that the Bayern Munich boss was on the list of candidates that the Hammers would consider if they decided to replace David Moyes.

Tuchel is not expected to stay in his current job beyond the end of the season, and there has been speculation that the former Chelsea head coach would be open to managing another Premier League team.

However, while the Mail confirm that West Ham do have a “long-standing interest” in the German, there is next to no chance that the Champions League winner will want to succeed Moyes at the London Stadium.

Where does this leave West Ham?

It is believed that the board would prefer to wait until the end of the season before making a decision on Moyes’ future.

The summer is seen as the right time to make the change in the dugout with Moyes’ contract set to expire in June. However, if results don’t improve, the club may be forced into doing it earlier than expected.

Due diligence is being done on potential candidates, looking at who is interested in the job and what it would cost to bring them in.

Who are the top candidates to replace Moyes?

With Tuchel having been ruled out and another option, Oliver Glasner, appointed by Crystal Palace, the club are likely to focus their efforts on three other managers.

The leading candidates on the Irons’ shortlist are said to be Graham Potter, ex-Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper and former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui.

All three are out of work: Potter left Chelsea in April last year, Cooper was sacked in December while Lopetegui resigned from his post at Molineux just before the season started. It means that if the Irons were to sack Moyes now, they would be available to take the Scot’s place straight away.
