Ex-West Ham midfielder Joe Cole says his former club have got themselves a “top player” in Mohammed Kudus.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Cole claimed that the £38m summer signing won’t have the same trouble adapting to the Premier League as Manchester United’s Antony, who also moved to England from Ajax:
“Kudus is the one to look for though, that kid, man. He was at Ajax, and you look at Antony who was at Ajax but not really settled into the Premier League.”
“But Kudus, because of the power in him, he was never going to have a problem translating from the Eredivisie into the Premier League. He’s going to be a top player, he’s my one.”
Kudus has started his West Ham career brightly
The 23-year-old has certainly looked impressive during his first few months at the London Stadium. 4 goals in 14 appearances is a decent start.
Kudus’s equaliser against Newcastle last month and his spectacular effort in the 3-2 defeat to Brentford last weekend were particularly noteworthy.
West Ham managed to see off competition from Premier League rivals for Kudus
One of Cole’s other former teams, Chelsea, were heavily linked with the Ghanaian international over the summer. However, Kudus’s agent recently revealed that the Blues were not prepared to pay a sizeable fee to secure his services:
“We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed the contract with Chelsea but the deal was not done. He talked with the coach but in the end, it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax. There was no counteroffer. Chelsea did this with lots of players this summer, making very low offers to clubs knowing that they would not be accepted.”
Arsenal were also mentioned as a potential suitor but it appears that Chelsea were West Ham’s main rivals for Kudus.
