Chelsea will step up “talks” with West Ham target Conor Gallagher as they look to tie down the midfielder to a new contract, according to 90min.com.

The website claims that the Hammers, Tottenham and Newcastle remain interested in signing the 10-cap England international but the Blues are now intent on keeping the player at Stamford Bridge.

For most of the summer, it looked like Gallagher would be sold but, over the past few months, he has become a key figure for manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has started him in every single league game so far this campaign.

There could still be a chance for David Moyes’ side to land the 23-year-old in January but Chelsea are now planning to have him sign an extension before then.

Gallagher’s current deal expires in 2025 so the London club know they need to get his future sorted as soon as possible. Based on 90min.com‘s report, though, it sounds as if he is likely to stay with his current team, barring any unforeseen issues in negotiations.

Moyes tried to sign Gallagher back in July

West Ham have already made on concerted effort to secure the midfielder’s services. They reportedly made a £40m offer in the summer, only for it to be knocked back by Chelsea.

It is not a surprise they are still keeping tabs on Gallagher’s situation, even if a transfer seems off the cards.

It is widely believed that technical director Tim Steidten is looking around the market for a new striker. Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez is known to be on the Irons’ radar.

A move for a left-back can’t be ruled out either, with Aaron Cresswell set to leave the London Stadium. Nantes defender Quentin Merlin has been suggested as a potential replacement.
