Journalist Claims Chelsea Will “Listen To Offers” For Player Just Months After Snubbing £40M Bid From West Ham

Chelsea will “listen to offers” for West Ham target Conor Gallagher when the transfer window reopens in January, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Writing on his Substack page, Phillips said that the Blues are still open to selling the England international, with discussions over a contract extension having not started:

“I’m told that the club will still listen to offers for Conor Gallagher in the January window, as they did in the summer. If an offer comes in that they deem good enough, the player could still go with no current contract talks underway.”

Sky Sports reported at the end of July that the Hammers did make a £40m offer for Gallagher, only for the proposal to be knocked back by the Blues, who were seeking a higher fee.

It looks like the midfielder will be available again if manager David Moyes decides to make another move for him in the New Year.

Why are Chelsea trying to sell Gallagher?

Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino had actually started the 23-year-old in every single match up until the Carabao Cup game against Brighton on Wednesday night, so why is he up for sale?

As Phillips points out, Gallagher’s contract situation is an issue. He will have 18 months left to run on his current deal in January. On top of that, his club need to balance the books after spending over £1bn on new signings since the beginning of last season.

Are West Ham still interested in signing Gallagher?

After recruiting the likes of Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, it is up for debate whether Gallagher is still on the Irons’ radar.

Moyes is, however, known to be a fan of the midfielder so, if he does become available for a reasonable price, you can’t rule out the possibility of another offer being tabled for him.
