West Ham On Alert With Chelsea ‘Willing To Listen To Offers’ For 24 Year Old Defender

Chelsea are “willing to listen to offers” for West Ham target Trevoh Chalobah, according to the Evening Standard.

The London newspaper claims that new manager Mauricio Pochettino is expected to favour Levi Colwill ahead of Chalobah, leaving the 24-year-old with an uncertain future.

It has been reported in recent days that David Moyes’s side are interested in Chalobah, along with the likes of Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Inter Milan.

With Chelsea seemingly open to a sale, we shall have to see whether the Hammers do make a formal bid in the coming days and weeks.

West Ham do need to strengthen their options at the back

The Irons are not exactly blessed with centre-backs. Craig Dawson was not replaced when he left for Wolves during the January transfer window, and Angelo Ogbonna’s future is still in doubt, with no announcement over a contract extension.

It may leave Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer as the only three senior centre-halves available, so reinforcements are required.

Chalobah is not the only player being considered

Roma’s Roger Ibanez, Juventus’s Gleison Bremer, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah are just some of the other centre-backs that West Ham have been linked with recently.

None will be available on the cheap, though. Ibanez is on the market for around €25m (£21m), Maguire is likely to cost £40m, while Bremer’s valuation is said to be as high as €60m (£51.5m).

Chalobah would be a more economical option, along with Tah, who reportedly has an €18m (£15.4m) release clause in his contract.

Following the sale of captain Declan Rice to Arsenal, though, it has been claimed that West Ham will pursue a winger first before signing a replacement for their talisman, so a move for a centre-half could still be some way off.
