West Ham Named As One Of 3 PL Clubs That Have Made First Approach For Ex-Chelsea Flop

West Ham have already made an enquiry about signing RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, according to The Mirror.

The English tabloid says the Hammers, along with Fulham and Crystal Palace, have registered their interest in the former Chelsea player ahead of the January transfer window.

Werner only returned to Germany last year, but he has made just two starts this season and The Mirror claim that the striker is “open” to making a move back to England to get more first-team football.

At the moment, it is not known whether Leipzig would agree to a loan deal or whether they’d only accept a permanent transfer.

The Bundesliga side paid £25m to re-sign Werner and, at this stage, it’s unclear what asking price they will demand for the German international.

Werner possesses some great traits

The 27-year-old is widely regarded as a flop, after his first spell at Chelsea ended on a sour note, having scored just 23 goals for the Blues across two seasons in English football.

However, Werner has pace to burn, and he is capable of playing right across the front three, which could make him a very useful addition to David Moyes’ squad.

West Ham are weighing up moves for a number of different forwards

It should be pointed out that Werner is just one of many strikers who have been linked with a transfer to the London Stadium over the past few weeks.

Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, Chelsea’s Armando Broja and Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez are also said to be on the club’s shortlist of options.

Werner is, though, arguably a different profile to those three players. He is not a target man by any stretch of the imagination and it could be the case that he is being looked at to strengthen West Ham’s left wing.
