West Ham transfer target Steven Bergwijn has refused to rule out leaving Ajax during the January transfer window.
The Hammers have been credited with an interest in the former Tottenham player in recent days and, when asked about the rumours, the forward replied:
“You should ask my agent. Leaving Ajax in January? In football, you can never rule out anything.”
There was a mixed reaction from fans on X about West Ham’s interest in Bergwijn, with many not convinced that he possesses the quality to play in the Premier League:
Decent player, but is this what we need?

It would be awesome attack. Kudus, Paqueta, Bergwijn, Bowen in front.

I'm sorry but these comments are crazy for fans of a club that employ Said Benrahma in LW. Lol

Bergwijn’s record at Spurs was pretty average
The Netherlands international spent two and a half years at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium between January 2020 and July 2022, but he failed to make an impact, scoring just 8 goals in 83 appearances.
After returning to the Eredivisie with Ajax, Bergwijn’s form has improved, and he has hit the back of the net 5 times in 10 league matches so far this campaign.
West Ham may have some convincing to do if they want Bergwijn
It was reported last year that the Dutchman rejected offers from Everton and Manchester United in order to make the switch to Ajax so it remains to be seen whether he could be convinced into returning to English football.
Bergwijn is likely to prioritise game time as he will be hoping to keep his place in the Netherlands squad ahead of next summer’s European Championships.
