“He Will Stay” – West Ham And Chelsea Dealt Blow As Chances Of £26M January Transfer Are Played Down

West Ham transfer target Alessandro Buongiorno will not leave Torino during the January transfer window, according to former player Beppe Dossena.

Writing in his column for La Stampa (via TMW), Dossena said that the defender has already made it clear that “he will stay” at El Toro, so he believes a transfer is unlikely to happen:

“Now he doesn’t want to leave, he already said it a few weeks ago after [the] Atalanta [game]. Torino will do well to hold on to him and make the most of it.”

Dossena did, however, go on to concede that Torino may have to change this stance on Buongiorno if a “big club” makes an “important offer” but he doesn’t feel that such a proposal would be considered in January.

How much would tempt Torino into selling the defender?

While it seems unlikely that West Ham would be successful with an offer for Buongiorno next month, a valuation between €30m (£26m) and €40m (£34m) has already been touted.

On the face of it, those figures are not beyond the reach of the Hammers, but they will have other transfer priorities in January. It is believed that David Moyes’s side will focus on recruiting a striker and, potentially a left-back. With funds limited due to Financial Fair Play, a centre-half is unlikely top of the club’s agenda.

West Ham will also have rivals for Buongiorno

At the start of the week, it was reported in Italy that Chelsea, Tottenham and Aston Villa were competing with West Ham for the Italian international’s signature.

Buongiorno also has plenty of suitors among Serie A clubs, with the likes of Roma, Inter, Milan, Juventus and Napoli all interested, but they can’t really compete financially with the Premier League teams and they would struggle to match the centre-back’s asking price.
