TOP FIVE Premier League Teams Who Have Spent The Most Money (So Far) This Summer

Declan Rice in Arsenal training.

With the summer transfer window set to shut in just over a month’s time, we thought it was a good time to look at which Premier League clubs have spent the most so far.

Despite Saudi Arabia giving them a run for their money, English football remains top dog in terms of the amount shelled out on new signings.

Our top five have all spent over nine figures on new players and we haven’t even hit August yet.

Press the next page as we count down the biggest spenders in the Premier League (using data from Transfermarkt).

5) Liverpool – €112m

The Reds could actually rocket up this list if they do seal the signature of Southampton’s Romeo Lavia in the coming days.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has brought in two marquee signings so far; both of which have been recruited to strengthen the midfield.

It is believed that Liverpool paid only £35m to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton due to a release clause. The World Cup winner could turn out to be the bargain of the summer.

Dominik Szoboszlai cost nearly double at £60m. Purchasing the Hungarian captain is a much riskier move, and there are doubts over how he will adapt to the Premier League.

4) Newcastle United – €116m

Like Liverpool, the Magpies have made two key additions in AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali (£60m) and Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes (£38m) so far.

The transfer for Tonali did catch many people by surprise. He has been compared to Italy legend Andrea Pirlo but he hasn’t really fulfilled his potential yet.

Barnes looks to be a very shrewd signing. The winger scored 13 times in the Premier League last campaign and he will add firepower to Newcastle’s attack.

Eddie Howe’s side are expected to go back into the market before the window closes, with Southampton’s Tino Livramento a top target.

3) Manchester United – €116.70m

With the takeover saga looming large over the club, there were concerns that it could hamper the Red Devils’ ability to buy players.

However, despite the ownership situation remaining unresolved, the club have still backed manager Erik ten Hag, having signed both Mason Mount (£55m) and Andre Onana (£47m).

It is believed that an opening bid has also been made for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund, who could cost as much as €70m (£60m).

With that being the case, United could also move up this list in the not-too-distant future if they agree a deal to sign the Danish forward.

2) Tottenham Hotspur – €136.30m

Considering Spurs are not always known for splashing out the cash, chairman Daniel Levy has backed his new manager Ange Postecoglou by bringing in some new players.

The most high profile is James Maddison, who has arrived from Leicester City, while they have a new number one, Guglielmo Vicario, who has big shoes to fill by replacing Hugo Lloris.

Manor Solomon has been snapped up on a free transfer, which is somewhat of a surprise as he didn’t really make the biggest impression during his loan spell at Fulham.

The remaining two signings, Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski, were at the club last season but they have now joined on a permanent basis.

1) Arsenal – €231.60m

The Gunners have spent big in order to capitalise on their second-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Of course, the most high profile of the new arrivals is the £100m they spent on West Ham captain Declan Rice.

However, their two other recruits, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber, also cost a combined £100m.

We shall have to wait and see whether Arsenal’s lavish spending is rewarded with performances on the pitch next campaign.
