After Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic was sent off for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh last week, a greater focus has been placed on abuse towards match officials.
In competitive matches, where emotions run high, it is understandable that some players can lose their heads but Mitrovic’s behaviour should never be tolerated.
Sadly, though, plenty of teams in the Premier League have been charged for disciplinary problems this season.
Press the next page as we list the five clubs who have been fined the most by the FA.
With the turnover of players at the Midlands club over the summer, Forest have done much better than some have expected after being promoted from the Championship.
While they are still in a relegation battle, manager Steve Cooper has managed to put a team together capable of getting results, particularly at home.
However, it appears he hasn’t managed to get a handle on team discipline. With so many signings, it’s probably not easy getting your point across to everyone.
As we go through this list, you do feel that the team’s ability to stay disciplined has a lot to do with how their manager behaves.
Pep Guardiola is not known for his discipline on the touchline, remonstrating with officials and gesticulating wildly when decisions don’t go his way.
It’s not entirely surprising that Guardiola’s players are taking their cues from him, and it has led to substantial fines for their behaviour towards referees.
The Toffees have had two different managers this season so it’s hard to pin the blame on either Frank Lampard or Sean Dyche for their lack of discipline.
Even so, Everton’s players have not always been on their best behaviour towards match officials. Some of that is down to the pressure of being in a fight for relegation.
However, neither Southampton nor Bournemouth have had any fines for failing to control their players this season so that can’t be used as an excuse.
Erik ten Hag has certainly brought a harder edge to the job since being appointed Red Devils boss back in the summer.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was deemed to be soft, and Ralf Rangnick lacked respect in the dressing room, ten Hag has managed to get the squad on his side.
From the looks of things, though, his players’ newly found competitive streak has led to them stepping over the line on too many occasions.
If any team were a reflection of their manager then it is this Arsenal team. Mikel Arteta (like his mentor Pep Guardiola) is a very intense figure on the touchline.
Although the Spaniard is clearly very competitive and wants to win at all costs, he has stepped over the line too often; both with confrontations with officials and opposition managers.
Obviously, his players follow his example, and the Gunners are, by far and away, the most fined club for their poor behaviour this campaign.
