“They Badly Need A Positive Result” Owen Predicts The Outcome Of West Ham’s Game Against Southampton

TV pundit Michael Owen says West Ham will be desperate to get the three points when they face fellow strugglers Southampton this afternoon.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini’s job is reportedly on the line, with a defeat at St Mary’s likely to spell the end of the Chilean’s time in charge of the Hammers. Meanwhile, the Saints are also struggling at the wrong end of the table but Owen predicts that neither side will end the game satisfied:

“Manuel Pellegrini’s side dominated the first half against Arsenal earlier in the week, but they were easily brushed aside in the second 45 minutes and they badly need a positive result at St Mary’s. I expect the game to finish in a low-scoring draw.”

Whether a draw will be enough for Pellegrini to stay in his post, we shall have to wait and see. The axe may still fall considering it would be the best time to make a managerial change.

West Ham don’t have a game for two weeks after today due to Liverpool’s participation in the Club World Cup. It would provide a perfect opportunity for any new appointment to get his feet under the table before the Irons face Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.
