The FIVE Favourites To Replace David Moyes At West Ham – Including 2 Former Chelsea Managers

David Moyes

West Ham manager David Moyes and his coaching team ‘fear they will be sacked’ if the Hammers lose to Southampton this weekend, according to the Daily Mail.

The match at the London Stadium on Sunday is a relegation six-pointer with the Irons (who currently sit in 18th) taking on the bottom-of-the-table Saints.

A defeat this weekend could lead to West Ham’s board finally wielding the axe, with Moyes under all sorts of pressure after a very poor season.

Press the next page as we list the five favourites (based on odds from Sky Bet) to become the next Hammers manager.

=4) Mauricio Pochettino – 10/1

The ex-Tottenham boss has been suggested by some pundits and former players as a potential candidate.

However, following Spurs’s decision to sack Antonio Conte, a return to his former club is likely to be the Argentinian’s preference.

With that being the case, you can’t see West Ham being able to persuade him to replace David Moyes, especially before the summer.

=4) Jose Mourinho – 10/1

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has been mentioned as a possible option in the Italian media.

It doesn’t seem like a particularly realistic appointment at this current moment in time, considering he is still manager of Roma.

The Giallorossi are currently fifth in the Serie A table, so why would Mourinho want to up sticks and leave for a team currently sitting in the relegation places?

3) Marcelo Bielsa – 8/1

The Argentine was a genuine candidate for the Everton job before he was ruled out for wanting to take charge at the end of the season.

It means Bielsa would probably be willing to talk with West Ham about becoming David Moyes’ successor but the Hammers will likely face the same difficulties as the Toffees.

The 67-year-old plans everything meticulously and you can’t see him wanting to take the job right in the middle of a relegation battle.

2) Michael Carrick – 5/1

The former West Ham midfielder has excelled during his first permanent manager’s job at Middlesbrough.

Carrick has guided the Teessiders away from the relegation places to becoming legitimate contenders for automatic promotion from the Championship.

Having only taken the Boro job in October, though, the Manchester United legend may be reluctant to leave the Riverside Stadium so soon.

1) Rafa Benitez – 7/4

The former Liverpool and Chelsea head coach is the outstanding candidate to replace Moyes for a number of reasons.

West Ham’s owners are known to be big fans of Benitez, while the fact that he has been out of work for fourteen months means he would be open to taking another job, even midseason.

Benitez was, though, appointed by Newcastle when the Magpies were involved in their own relegation battle and the Spaniard was unable to prevent them from losing their top-flight status.
