The EIGHT West Ham Players Who Are Out Of Contract This Summer

As the season enters its midpoint, several West Ham players could see their contracts expire in six months’ time

Currently, the Hammers have eight players whose contracts are set to run out in June.

Some of them have extension clauses in their contracts – however, none of them on this list have been activated as of yet.

Manuel Lanzini

Lanzini has been an Irons player since 2015 – but with his contract expiring in June, his time at the club may be coming to an end. West Ham do have a clause in his contract that could see his contract extended for further two years, though.

It’s difficult to predict where Lanzini will end up if West Ham do decide to let the 29-year-old Argentinian go. He’s been in the Premier League for nearly eight years now and still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

He has struggled for game time this year, despite having no known injury concerns. So far, he’s only made five league appearances this season, with no goals or assists to his name.

Vladimir Coufal

Vladimir Coufal accrued plenty of praise when he arrived at West Ham, alongside fellow Czech Republic compatriot Tomas Soucek. He appears to be in the process of being phased out in favour of Ben Johnson, but that doesn’t mean his time at the club is over.

Like Lanzini, West Ham have the option to extend Coufal’s contract by an additional two years. While they have yet to do so, it would be an odd move for the Hammers to allow such a capable full back to leave for nothing.

Despite this, at 30, Coufal is no spring chicken. If he does leave West Ham in the summer, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him depart the Premier League for good.

Craig Dawson

Former West Brom favourite Craig Dawson has been a surprisingly solid addition to West Ham’s team since he joined the club back in 2020. A monolithic presence in the air, he’s an old-school centre-back who has developed into something of a cult figure at the club.

At 32, though, you have to feel that Dawson’s time at West Ham is limited. He’s only made eight Premier League appearances this season – in these eight games, West Ham have only kept a single clean sheet.

Dawson has been angling for a move back up north for personal reasons, and there is a chance that he could even leave the London Stadium this month, with Wolves circling.

Aaron Cresswell

Aaron Cresswell is one of West Ham’s longest-serving players currently at the club, having been signed from Ipswich Town back in 2014. A talented left-back with a knack for set pieces, he’s made over 250 appearances for the Irons during his tenure.

He may be a Hammers icon, but at 33, it’s difficult to justify a decision to renew his contract. In an era where full backs are required to cover enormous amounts of ground per game, you have to wonder if Cresswell’s ageing legs can withstand the modern game.

The defender would probably be more suited to playing Championship football at the tail end of his career. He might not be as quick as he used to be, but he’s still an intelligent footballer who can provide plenty of assists from deep positions.

Angelo Ogbonna

A physical centre half who joined from Juventus back in 2015, Angelo Ogbonna always provided an intimidating presence in the heart of the defence. Given his age (34), however, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the Irons let him move on in the summer.

Ogbonna has made 178 league appearances for West Ham during his time at the club, scoring eight goals. While prone to a moment of madness, he is excellent for defending crosses and set pieces.

Should Ogbonna leave the club in the summer, it is very possible that he will return to his native Italy. In total, he’s collected 13 caps for Gli Azzurri.

Lukasz Fabianski

Lukasz Fabianski has been the Irons’ first choice goalkeeper since 2018, picking up 154 Premier League appearances during that time. While he often struggles with set pieces, distribution and controlling his area, he more than makes up for it with his unbelievable shot stopping ability.

However, Fabianski’s age must be noted. He’s 37 years old – as his reflexes begin to wane, so will his value to West Ham’s squad.

It may be time to move the former Arsenal and Swansea keeper on. Should West Ham decide to part ways with him, they will need to look out for another number one – additionally, they also have the option to extend his contract for another year.

Darren Randolph

Fabianski isn’t the only former international ‘keeper at West Ham whose contract runs out at the end of June – there’s also Darren Randolph, who has primarily been used as backup for the Hammers.

Randolph has made just five Premier League appearances for the Irons since joining the club from Middlesbrough in 2020. He’s by no means a poor goalkeeper, but he has never been able to surpass Fabianski in the pecking order.

Randolph will likely drop down to the Championship if West Ham allow his contract to run out. A former Republic of Ireland international, he’s earned 50 caps for the Boys in Green.

Conor Coventry

Once, Conor Coventry looked like one of West Ham’s best young talents. Despite this, now aged 22, he has yet to carve out a spot in the Irons’ senior team.

He has spent the majority of his tenure at the club out on loan. This season, he’s appeared in the Premier League just once.

It wouldn’t be a shock to see the Irishman leave the club in the summer and move to a club in the EFL. He’s talented midfielder, but he may not have what it takes to compete in England’s top flight.
