No De Bruyne, No Trent: We Take A Look At The TOP FIVE Most Valuable Players In The Premier League

The CIES Football Observatory have released their annual update assessing the transfer values of players across world football.

Their analysis has come up with some interesting results, although it must be pointed out that their methodology does take into account a player’s age, contract length, and the club that they play (as well as many other metrics).

As a consequence, there have been a few surprises in terms of who has made it into the top five most valuable stars in the Premier League for 2022.

Press the next page as we count down which players have the highest transfer value.

5) Jadon Sancho (Manchester United) – €103.2m

Considering his poor debut season for United, it is somewhat surprising to see the winger so high up on the list, especially as he is ranked above some very high-profile players.

Sancho is still only 21 years of age, though, and after a year to settle in, there is some hope that he will put in some improved performances next campaign.

4) Ruben Dias (Manchester City) – €109.6m

Although the Portuguese international hasn’t been quite as impressive during his second year in England, he still helped City win another Premier League title.

Dias has the potential to improve at the age of 25, and he has also taken up a leadership role, having captained his team on multiple occasions last season.

3) Luis Diaz (Liverpool) – €110m

The Colombian made a huge impact after arriving at Anfield during the January transfer window, and it appears the Reds got an excellent deal after paying only an initial £37.5m for the player.

Whether Diaz will kick on during his first full campaign with Liverpool, we shall have to wait and see, but many believe that the Merseyside club’s recruitment team have pulled off yet another masterstroke.

2) Phil Foden (Manchester City) – €124m

The attacking midfielder has now won 11 major trophies despite only being 22, and the sky really is the limit for a player who continues to make big improvements in his game.

Foden managed to get double figures for both goals and assists for a second successive season, which demonstrates how much of a threat he is in the final third of the pitch.

1) Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – €154.6m

City have reportedly only paid €60m for the Norwegian international, after triggering the release clause in his contract at Borussia Dortmund.

It could prove to be an absolute bargain, considering Haaland’s outstanding goal record, which has seen him average a goal every 1.03 matches during his time in Germany.
