No Rice, No Caicedo: We Take A Look At The Top 5 Most Valuable Players In The Premier League

The CIES Football Observatory keep close tabs on the value of professional footballers across the world.

They have created a methodology that uses contract length, age, position, league, goals, assists and other metrics to calculate how much each player is worth.

At the moment, the most valuable stars in the Premier League play for only two clubs, with many high-profile names, including Declan Rice, missing out.

Press the next page as we count down the current top 5 (as of March 2024).

=4) Martin Odegaard (Arsenal) – €150m

It’s quite remarkable that the Norwegian is still only 25, despite how long he has been around for.

Odegaard was pursued by top clubs at an early age before Real Madrid won the race for his signature. While he did not end up making the grade at the Bernabeu, he has found his home with the Gunners.

The playmaker has been key to Mikel Arteta’s side’s title challenge, scoring 9 goals and contributing 8 assists in 36 appearances.

Odegaard is an integral figure, providing the creativity that has seen them rack up some massive victories this season.

=4) Julian Alvarez (Manchester City) – €150m

The 24-year-old does tend to get overshadowed by Erling Haaland but he is a great player in his own right.

Manager Pep Guardiola has handed Alvarez more starts this season, although he has rarely played in his favoured position upfront due to Haaland’s presence.

The Argentinian international has still managed to make a big impact, scoring 16 times and providing 13 assists in 42 appearances this campaign.

Alvarez’s ability to adapt has allowed him to play a more prominent role for City than in his first season at the Etihad.

=2) Phil Foden (Manchester City) – €200m

Many pundits in the UK believe that the England international is the firm favourite for the Players’ Player of the Year award.

Whether Foden justifies that level of adoration, though, it is debatable, but he has had a very good campaign for City up until now.

The 23-year-old has 28 goal contributions in all competitions, having already helped his team secure the Club World Cup back in December.

City could potentially win themselves four trophies this season, as they are also still in contention for the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. Foden’s performances have been key to their success.

=2) Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) – €200m

The second England international in the top 5, the winger has been in scintillating form over the past seven months.

Saka is already in double figures for both goals and assists in the Premier League, while he has racked up an incredible 31 goal involvements across all competitions.

It’s a mightily impressive record for someone who is still only 22 years of age.

When you consider that Saka could still improve in the future, it is scary to think how good he could become.

1) Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – €250m

It won’t come as a surprise to anyone that the Norwegian tops this list.

Haaland is simply a goal machine, having bagged 29 before the end of March. You have to take into account that he has spent over a month of the season injured too.

Despite that, there has been criticism of his finishing from some quarters, which is bizarre when you look at his numbers.

At 23, Haaland has scored 216 goals in professional football. He could go on to break all sorts of records in the future.
