‘Classic Moyes’ Journalist Explains Why Star West Ham Signing Has Yet To Start In The Premier League

Mohammed Kudus joined West Ham United amid plenty of hype – however, questions have been raised, after manager David Moyes has still yet to give him a Premier League start.

The decision to not start Kudus as of yet has been explained by journalist Paul Brown – he has branded the Scot’s choice as ‘classic Moyes’.

What did journalist Paul Brown say regarding Mohammed Kudus’ status?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown said: “I wasn’t that surprised really, no. It’s classic David Moyes and he does like to integrate players very gently when they come into the squad.

“Playing a team like Liverpool is a big step up from the Europa League, which is essentially a competition that Kudus is more used to. That’s a game that he’d be much more comfortable in because it would have been a game more like the ones he played for his previous club. Liverpool is whole different kettle of fish.”

Does Kudus deserve to start for West Ham?

In terms of his natural ability, Kudus definitely has the quality and pedigree to warrant a regular spot in the starting XI for West Ham. His pace, ability on the ball and clever movement all combine to make him a phenomenal winger.

Additionally, he was also a very expensive transfer for the Hammers to complete – all in all, the Ghanaian prodigy set them back around £38 million upon his arrival at the club. As such, it makes little sense to leave such an expensive player on the bench in every game.

Of course, however, this is just Moyes waiting for Kudus to prove his worth to the team. He does not want to treat him like a superstar right out of the gate – he wants him to earn his chance like everyone else had to before him.

Moreover, like Brown implied, Moyes does not want to destroy Kudus’ confidence by throwing him in at the deep end in a tough game against the likes of Liverpool.

Instead, he chose to field him in the Europa League, against teams that Kudus can not only handle effectively, but is also more familiar with.
