Hammers make £20m bid for Portuguese international

West Ham United have reportedly made an offer of £20m to Sporting Lisbon for midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Sporting are going through a rather rough period at present, with a number of top stars cancelling their contracts with the club.

Fernandes is one of those who has terminated his deal through ‘just cause’, and joins the likes of Gelson Martins, Bas Dost and Rui Patricio on their way out.

It comes following an attack on players and staff by a group of around 50 people at their training ground in May.

He could be available for free if his contract is successfully terminated, but Sporting are said to be after a fee of £25m for the Portuguese international, who played a big role in the national side this summer in the World Cup before they were eliminated in the second round.

Sky Sports report that one other Premier League club has shown concrete interest in Fernandes, as well as La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

The Hammers have had a busy summer so far, signing three players including French defender Issa Diop, Swansea ‘keeper Lukasz Fabianski and Fulham right-back Ryan Fredericks.

The Hammers have also made a bid for Nice striker Alessane Plea and Lazio’s Felipe Anderson.
