Five High Profile Players With Release Clauses That Premier League Clubs Could Sign This Summer

After looking at some of the out-of-contract players currently starring for their countries at the European Championships last week, we are now focusing on footballers who have release clauses.

Most of these potential bargains are not currently playing at the Euros, but they have had good seasons at club level, and will undoubtedly be interesting Premier League teams.

Buyout fees are uncommon in the UK but there is one player on our list who is currently plying his trade in this country.

Press the next page as we go through five high-profile players who have release clauses inserted into their contracts.

Pau Torres – £56m

Manchester United are the team who are believed to be most interested in the Spaniard, but Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal have also been linked with the defender over the past year.

Torres is a left-footed centre-back, who is comfortable on the ball. He is a regular starter for Spain and played a key role in helping Villarreal win the Europa League last month.

Sander Berge – £35m

Reports in the local media claim that the Norwegian international’s release clause dropped from £45m to £35m when Sheffield United were relegated from the top flight last season.

Berge is angling for a move away from Bramall Lane, with Arsenal, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Napoli all being linked with a bid for the midfielder.

Lorenzo Pellegrini – £25.7m

The Italian captained Roma in the second half of last season, but his future has been called into question with manager Jose Mourinho keen on bringing in Granit Xhaka from Arsenal.

It is believed that the Gunners could actually be interested in bringing Pellegrini to the Emirates, while Liverpool have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

Luis Suarez – £0

The 34-year-old only joined Atletico Madrid from Barcelona on a free transfer last year but, when he signed a two-year contract with the Spanish side, a break clause was included.

It means Suarez can leave on a free transfer this summer if he so wishes, but the Uruguayan has spoken out in recent days to say he is happy to stay at Atletico, after helping his club to the La Liga title last campaign.

Arkadiusz Milik – £10.3m

The Polish international joined Marseille on an 18-month loan deal back in January, and the French club are obligated to purchase the striker next summer.

However, reports in France suggest Milik has a clause which means he could move to another club for just €12m (£10.3m). Considering he scored 10 goals in 16 appearances in the second half of last season, English clubs may well be weighing up a move for the 27-year-old.
