Real Madrid could yet enter the race to sign West Ham captain Declan Rice, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Sky Italy reporter claims the European champions may consider making an offer for the England international based on manager Carlo Ancelotti’s recommendation:

“We can even add Real Madrid to that list [of suitors]. Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of his qualities. So you should never forget to mention Real Madrid, for the simple reason that Carlo Ancelotti likes Declan Rice.”

If Real do get involved, it could boost the Hammers’ chances of getting in excess of £100m for the 24-year-old. There have been plenty of reports over the last few weeks suggesting that the London club could be prepared to settle for a fee in the region of £75m to £85m.

However, if there is more competition for the player, it could drive up the price. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and potentially Manchester City are all said to be weighing up approaches at the end of the season but the addition of Real to the mix could make things interesting.

While West Ham fans would love to keep Rice, the midfielder’s refusal to sign a new contract means a parting of ways is inevitable. The task next summer will be to get the best deal possible so the money can be reinvested back into the squad.
