West Ham United is set to sign Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville for a rough fee of £25 million beating out rival teams.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there is a deal in place and Summerville is set to undergo a medical at the London Stadium before joining West Ham on their pre-season camp.
The Dutch winger has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs so far this summer. However, it seems the Hammers have won the race for the 22-year-old.
Why was Summerville in demand?
The Leeds United winger was exceptional for the Yorkshire side in the Championship last season. He made 43 appearances, scoring 19 goals and recording nine assists.
Summerville can play virtually anywhere in attack, he has made appearances on both wings, in attacking midfield, and even as a striker. He was one of Leeds’ star players, helping them to the Championship playoff final where they fell to Southampton.
He was keen to move away from Elland Road this summer as he wanted to play Premier League football following Leeds’ unsuccessful promotion campaign.
West Ham United beat out Premier League rivals
Last season’s Championship Player of the Season attracted interest from a vast number of teams with differing levels of seriousness.
In terms of the Premier League, Summerville attracted West Ham, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and Fulham. There was also interest coming from a couple of Champions League giants PSG and Bayern Munich.
It is no surprise that Summerville has left Elland Road this summer, but looking at some of the names interested, Julian Lopetegui’s West Ham has done a great job in securing his signature.
