West Ham have entered the race to sign Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, according to reports.
Speaking on talkSPORT (quotes via TBRFootball), journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that the Hammers have joined several clubs in pursuing the Nigerian international’s signature:
“The latest player that I’ve heard on the radar for number six is Wilfred Ndidi, who has been discussed by Manchester United, Everton, Real Betis and Juventus and even Saudi. There are so many clubs in for Ndidi that my feeling is that it will resolve itself relatively quickly.”
Jacobs also confirmed that West Ham could make a move for a Chelsea midfielder, in addition to Ndidi:
“Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is another option in the eight role for West Ham United.”
Ndidi can be signed for a bargain price
Leicester’s relegation back to the Championship is believed to have triggered a release clause in the 28-year-old’s contract.
Ndidi can reportedly be signed for just £9m, and for that price, you can understand why West Ham are seriously contemplating a bid for the player. Competition will, of course, by fierce, considering the low fee.
What about West Ham’s interest in Dewsbury-Hall?
The Irons have been linked with a bid for the 26-year-old since January. Reports have claimed that he could have been offered to the club as part of Chelsea’s proposal for Mohammed Kudus. However, such a player exchange was not deemed acceptable.
It is thought that a loan with an option to buy is the approach that West Ham would take if they do make a move for Dewsbury-Hall before the transfer window closes on September 1st. It is up for debate whether such a bid would be accepted by Chelsea, considering he cost £30m just twelve months ago.
