West Ham right-back Vladimir Coufal has expressed his disappointment that talks over a new contract have stalled.
The 32-year-old claims that he was deserving of a “better” offer from the Hammers based on his performances for the club last season:
“I still regret that. Last season, I played the most minutes of all, and I also made seven assists. In the entire Premier League, only Kieran Trippier from Newcastle was better among defenders, who also takes set pieces.”
“I say openly that I deserved to negotiate much better terms. The option was also supposed to be a new contract. That was the agreement.”
Coufal is currently set to leave the London Stadium when his current deal expires at the end of June.
West Ham have a replacement lined up
It looks like the Irons have already identified who they want to bring in to succeed Coufal. Reports suggest that Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters is the top target.
Like Coufal, the England international is out of contract at the end of the campaign and he will be available on a free transfer.
West Ham will, though, face competition for Walker-Peters, with his former team Tottenham and Fulham said to be keen on securing his services too.
Coufal is one of five players who could leave when their contracts expire
Lukasz Fabianski, Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Aaron Cresswell have also not signed extensions yet, and the expectation is that the majority of them will be offloaded.
It has been claimed that Fabianski could return to his former team Legia Warsaw, while the club have been looking at potential left-backs to replace Cresswell.
Based on Coufal’s comments, it does appear that his time in London will soon come to an end. He has spent 4 and a half years with the Hammers.
