West Ham are one of three Premier League teams interested in signing Girona winger Viktor Tsygankov, according to reports in the Spanish media.
The Ukrainian international does have a €30m (£25m) release clause in his contract but Madrid-based publication AS claim that he could be sold for around €22m (£18.5m).
Tsygankov has been scouted by the Hammers, Bournemouth and Fulham and, despite having had a rather average season at Girona, all three clubs are said to be lining up moves for the player.
Girona did resist overtures from Manchester United and Aston Villa last year but there is a feeling that he will be let go if a sufficiently high bid is made this summer.
West Ham will have to wait before opening talks
It is believed that Tsygankov won’t push to leave Girona and he has told his representatives not to hold talks with prospective clubs until he returns from international duty.
His country, Ukraine, play against New Zealand in a friendly on Tuesday night. After that game, the 27-year-old is expected to be more amenable to potential offers.
Tsygankov is likely being targeted as Kudus’s replacement
The Israeli-born Ukrainian is a left-footed right winger who possesses a decent amount of pace, making him a good fit for the Premier League.
Tsygankov’s profile is also identical to Mohammed Kudus’s so it’s easy to see why the Irons are considering him as a target.
Kudus is being pursued by several teams, including Chelsea and Arsenal. At the moment, no club has matched his asking price. It is believed that Graham Potter’s side will sanction the Ghanaian’s sale for below his £85m release clause and the proceeds from his departure will be used to strengthen the squad
In other news, Potter has reportedly decided against signing a Manchester United winger
