West Ham defender Max Kilman is expected to lead an exodus of at least seven players this summer, according to reports.

The Athletic reporter Roshane Thomas, who has good sources inside the London Stadium, claims that the Hammers will offload several unwanted stars in order to balance the books.

Kilman has been a massive flop since signing from Wolves for £40m at the start of last season.

It has got to the point where head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was prepared to change his entire formation against Aston Villa, rather than start the 28-year-old, following the injury sustained by Jean-Clair Todibo in the warm-up.

Who are the other West Ham players set to leave?

Edson Alvarez will not get a second chance if he returns from his loan spell at Fenerbahce this summer. The Turkish Super Lig side do have the option to buy the Mexican on a permanent basis.

He cost the Irons £35m to sign from Ajax, and the London club were prepared to take a financial hit by selling him for £19m, but it doesn’t appear as if the purchase clause will be triggered.

James Ward-Prowse (£30m) will be let go on a permanent basis following his loan at Burnley, while Niclas Fullkrug (£27m) will be in a similar boat when he returns from AC Milan.

Maxwel Cornet (£17.5m), Alphonse Areola (£7.75m) and Callum Wilson (free) are also set to be let go.

The club will make massive losses from these sales

Alvarez’s purchase option at Fenerbahce is already close to half of what West Ham paid for the midfielder, while AC Milan are not even willing to pay €5m (£4.36m) for Fullkrug.

Kilman, Ward-Prowse and Cornet will go for a fraction of what the club paid as well, while Wilson will leave on a free when his contract expires. £157m+ has pretty much been wasted.
