West Ham have registered their interest in AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez, according to reports in the Italian media.
MilanLive.it claim that the Mexican’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has “received” an enquiry from the Hammers (along with Sunderland) ahead of the January transfer window.
It is believed that the Rossoneri would be open to offloading Gimenez. Despite scoring 93 goals so far in his senior career, he has struggled for form and fitness since moving from Feyenoord at the start of this year.
The forward has yet to score in Serie A so far this season, and he is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.
A player swap for Gimenez could be on the cards
With limited finances, West Ham may consider offering wantaway striker Niclas Fullkrug in exchange for the Milan star.
However, the Italian club are not thought to be interested in the German international. MilanLive.it report that they would prefer Jean-Clair Todibo. They have a longstanding interest in the defender that goes back several years.
Considering the Irons are already short of options in the middle of defence, it seems unlikely that such a swap would be sanctioned.
