West Ham are weighing up a potential approach for Bayern Munich right-back Sacha Boey, according to reports in the German media.

TZ claim that the Hammers are “showing interest” in the Frenchman, who is surplus to requirements at the Bundesliga champions.

Bayern are planning a move for Feyenoord’s Givairo Read and they are prepared to offload Boey in order to make room in the first-team squad.

The fullback was signed from Galatasaray at the start of 2024 for a fee that could rise to £30m, but he is unlikely to be sold for anything close to that amount now.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will have a battle on their hands trying to secure the 25-year-old’s signature when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

It is believed that Crystal Palace, Juventus, Sevilla, Monaco, Lyon and former club Galatasaray are keen on signing Boey, along with the Irons.

The defender is said to be targeting a transfer to either the UK, France or Spain, which probably reduces the competition to just four teams, but a lot will hinge on who is willing to meet Bayern’s asking price.

Do West Ham need another right-back?

Kyle Walker-Peters was signed on a free transfer in the summer, and he is keeping Aaron Wan-Bissaka honest for his place on the right-hand side of defence.

In terms of priorities, reinforcing that position should be quite far down the list. Adding a striker has to be the main focus, especially with Niclas Fullkrug trying to force his way out of the club.

A new centre-back is also on the agenda, while Santo is believed to be keen on adding another central midfielder as well. For that reason, you can’t see a sizeable sum being spent on Boey.
