Spanish International Confirms Contract Talks As He Makes Feelings Clear On West Ham Move

West Ham transfer target Oscar Mingueza has revealed that he wants to stay at Celta Vigo.

The Spaniard, who has been capped 4 times by his country, is out of contract at the end of the season and foreign clubs, including the Hammers, will soon be able to discuss terms over a free transfer next summer.

However, speaking in the build-up to Celta Vigo’s Europa League fixture against Ludogorets, Mingueza said:

“I don’t know what it is [the chances of staying], but what I do know is that we are talking. I’m very comfortable here, I want to stay here, but you’ll see what happens. Now we have to be focused on football in Thursday’s game.”

Mingueza has plenty of suitors

Estadio Deportivo claim that West Ham, Aston Villa and Newcastle are among the clubs interested in signing the 26-year-old on a free.

Mingueza also has teams in Italy (including Como, AC Milan, Atalanta), France (Marseille), Germany and Saudi Arabia keeping close tabs on his situation.

However, despite the money on offer from elsewhere, it appears as if the defender is hoping to remain in Spain, where he feels settled and comfortable.

West Ham will focus on strengthening other positions

While Mingueza can play as a centre-half, he is most often used as a right-back, and that is not an area of the pitch that the Irons need to reinforce.

Of course, the fact that the Spanish international is nearing the end of his contract does make him an attractive target, but head coach Nuno Espirito Santo already has Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters for that position.

A striker, a centre-back and even another winger on the left flank should be prioritised ahead of a fullback in the New Year.
