West Ham are scouting Juventus fullback Nicola Savona, according to reports.
TBRFootball claim that the Hammers are “making checks” on the Italian, along with Premier League rivals Bournemouth and Everton.
Savona has found game time hard to come by since Igor Tudor replaced Thiago Motta in the dugout at Juve.
A thigh injury hasn’t helped matters. Since returning to fitness at the beginning of March, he hasn’t started a game, making three appearances off the bench in the last six league fixtures, having been an unused substitute in the other three.
West Ham are looking to strengthen at right-back
Vladimir Coufal is set to leave the London Stadium when his contract expires at the end of the season and head coach Graham Potter will need more competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Up until now, it has been expected that Kyle Walker-Peters would join on a free transfer from Southampton but interest in the England international is said to have cooled.
With that being the case, it seems as if the Irons have now turned their attention to Savona, who is capable of playing right across the defence.
Savona has been compared to an Arsenal player
Speaking to TBRFootball, journalist Graeme Bailey said that comparisons have been drawn between the 22-year-old and a fellow countryman who made the move to England for £42m last year:
“He looks like a central defender in physique and can play there, but he has the ability to get forward. He is very at home at full-back – indeed, I was told by a scout he is a bit similar to a [Riccardo] Calafiori and I can see that.”
Of course, considering West Ham’s limited transfer budget, they will be hoping Juve will sanction Savona’s move for a considerably lower price.
