West Ham are now considering whether to terminate the contract of Niclas Fullkrug, according to reports

The German international was signed from Borussia Dortmund for £27m in the summer of 2024, but he has struggled with form and fitness during his time at the London Stadium.

Writing on The West Ham Way Patreon (quotes via their website), insider ExWHUEmployee said that there is a genuine chance that the player could leave on a free transfer:

“There is a real consideration being given to mutually terminate Fullkrug’s contract. This would get his wages off the books and be best for all parties. It does, however, represent yet another disastrous striker signing to add to the very long list.”

Fullkrug still has two years left on his contract with the Hammers, so a mutual parting of ways would save the London club a considerable amount of money.

Milan did not want to pay £4.3m

Fullkrug was loaned out to AC Milan for the second half of last season, having effectively forced his departure after his agent declared publicly that he wanted to leave.

A purchase clause worth €5m (£4.7m) was included in the agreement that took the 33-year-old to the San Siro. However, after scoring just 1 goal in 20 appearances, Milan opted against keeping him.

Fullkrug is likely to return to Germany

The striker has a more than decent scoring record in the Bundesliga, which was what prompted West Ham to buy him in the first place.

There are believed to be several German teams keen on snapping up Fullkrug on a free transfer, with Werder Bremen the most prominent.

The Irons may get the player’s salary off the wage bill, but they will have to take a massive hit on his transfer fee to ensure he leaves this summer.
