West Ham want £20m for Nayef Aguerd rather than a swap deal with Juventus, according to reports.

Writing for Capitol Football, journalist Alessandro Schiavone confirmed speculation that Juve did offer Daniele Rugani in exchange for the Moroccan international.

However, the Hammers are keen on receiving cash only for Aguerd, as they look to raise funds for their own signings this summer.

Rugani did not exactly have the best of seasons whilst out on loan at Ajax and the fact that he will turn 31 at the end of next month means that he isn’t the right age either.

Aguerd does have other suitors

Juventus’s Serie A rivals Roma are also said to be interested in the centre-back, although reports that West Ham have received a bid from the Giallorossi for the player have been played down.

Teams in France and Germany have been linked with Aguerd in recent months as well, but a lot depends on who is willing to match the Irons’ asking price.

Their new valuation means Graham Potter’s side would still be taking a £10m hit on the player they signed from Rennes for £30m before the start of the 2022/23 season.

West Ham are looking to buy a centre-back

Potter currently has just three senior centre-halves in Jean-Clair Todibo, Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos, and there are even doubts about the futures of the latter two.

An attempt was made to sign CJ Egan-Riley from Burnley on a free transfer but he opted to join Marseille instead. Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Independiente’s Kevin Lomonaco, Monaco’s Soungoutou Magassa and Inter Milan’s Yann Bisseck are just some of the other names that been mentioned as potential targets. However, they may need to get Aguerd off the books first to finance bids for any of these defenders.
