Potter Claims West Ham Have Player With “Unbelievable Potential” But Spectre Of Summer Release Clause Looms Large

West Ham manager Graham Potter believes that Mohammed Kudus has “unbelievable potential” that could be unlocked the longer he works with him.

Potter has only been at the London Stadium a matter of weeks, but he can already see the talent that Kudus possesses:

“His potential is enormous. He’s an unbelievable talent, unbelievable potential. His high-end actions are world-class, there’s no doubt.”

“For me, it’s just to help him understand his role in the team, understand the responsibility he has, how we will attack as a team and how we defend as a team and his role within that, but he does things that normal players can’t do, which is an unbelievable quality to have.”

“Then it’s about fitting that into the team and helping him enjoy his football. I think if he’s enjoying his football, then you just see a player that can take us to another level.”

Kudus’s release clause becomes active soon

Potter may not get the chance to work with the Ghanaian international for that long if a team decides to trigger the buyout fee in his contract.

Kudus will be available for £85m when the transfer window opens this summer. He has been linked with the likes of Liverpool (who could target him as a potential replacement for Mo Salah), while Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

What are the odds of West Ham keeping the forward?

Due to the size of the release clause, there is still a good chance that the Hammers will be able to retain Kudus’s services beyond this summer.

The 24-year-old’s performances have not been particularly impressive this season, having scored just 3 times in 24 appearances.

However, Potter has a good reputation for developing players, and if Kudus stays at the club, West Ham could reap the benefits next campaign.
