West Ham are “hoping” to get “at least £60m” for Mohammed Kudus, according to reports.
The Ghanaian international has a release clause in his contract worth £85m that will become active when the next transfer window opens.
However, Hammers News claim the London club acknowledge that they won’t receive an offer close to that figure following Kudus’s underwhelming second season in England.
The 24-year-old has scored just 3 goals and contributed 3 assists in 29 appearances this campaign.
Interest in Kudus is not expected to be high
Another factor in lowering the asking price is that certain teams have dropped out of the race for the winger’s signature. Arsenal have reportedly cooled their interest, with only Liverpool now thought to be ready to make their move for the player.
Reds boss Arne Slot said that Kudus was “outstanding” in West Ham’s defeat at Anfield last weekend, and one of his assistants John Heitinga is thought to be a big fan as well. He is believed to have recommended him to David Moyes and technical director Tim Steidten before he was signed by the Irons in the summer of 2023.
West Ham will hope for bids from the Middle East
The only way that the club can hold out for a higher amount is if an approach is made from a Saudi Pro League side.
Kudus would, of course, have to be open to such a move, and there have been indications over the past week that he is coming around to the idea of making the switch to the Middle East.
He is one of the Hammers’ most saleable assets and the more money that the club can raise from his sale, the more they will be able to reinvest back into the squad.
