West Ham have decided to “cash in” on goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Speaking to Hammers News, Bailey said that the former Denmark youth international will be sold in the next transfer window if a satisfactory bid is received:

“Hermansen has struggled since coming in and was dropped early on. And I am told West Ham would cash in on him in January if that is possible.”

“It would not shock me if they even loaned him out to get his confidence and form back, which would also help his valuation.”

Hermansen’s disastrous start at the London Stadium

The Irons splashed out £20m to sign the 25-year-old from Leicester City back in August, but a series of errors meant that even before Graham Potter was sacked, he had been dropped from the starting lineup.

Any hopes for a fresh start under Potter’s successor were dashed when Nuno Espirito Santo picked Alphonse Areola in goal for his first game against Everton. The Frenchman has been number one ever since.

Maresca is a big fan of the West Ham keeper

In terms of potential suitors, Chelsea might well be interested. Hermansen was a key player when Enzo Maresca guided Leicester to promotion from the Championship during the 2023/24 season.

After Maresca moved to Stamford Bridge, he commented on the Dane’s abilities in his post-match interview after Chelsea faced the Foxes last campaign:

“Don’t forget that Leicester against Arsenal for 80 minutes was 0-0. It’s not easy. We created enough to be one goal ahead of them. The Leicester keeper is brilliant”.

Chelsea have been looking at signing a keeper since the start of last summer, when they made a move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, so it will be interesting to see if they do pursue Hermansen in January now that he is available again.
