West Ham Are “Set To Make An Approach” For £35M Transfer Target As Potter Eyes 3rd Summer Signing

West Ham are expected to step up their interest in Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Writing on his X account, Jacobs said that the Hammers are “set to make an approach” for the Denmark international, who is valued at £35m by the Foxes.

Head coach Graham Potter is thought to be keen on reinforcing his options in goal, with Lukasz Fabianski having left on a free transfer last month.

Hermansen has been identified as the top target, with new goalkeeping coach Casper Ankergren believed to have had a say in recommending him.

Will there be competition for Hermansen?

Chelsea are known to be interested in the 25-year-old, with their head coach Enzo Maresca having brought him to England in 2023 when he was Leicester boss.

However, the Blues are currently prioritising outgoings, having already signed seven players so far this summer.

There is also a belief that they would pursue a cheaper alternative to Hermansen, with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan having been targeted earlier in the transfer window. The Frenchman’s asking price is reportedly €25m (£21.6m).

West Ham have signed two players over the past week

It is fair to say that the club have had to be patient to bring in new signings. They had to wait until they received money from the sale of Mohammed Kudus to make moves for players.

El Hadji Malick Diouf was snapped up from Slavia Prague for £19m, while they secured the services of former Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer at the weekend.

Potter has now strengthened his fullback positions, but in addition to signing a new keeper, the Irons boss is also hoping to bring in two central midfielders and a couple of forwards before the transfer window closes.
