West Ham are hoping to ramp up their efforts to sign a new goalkeeper with Leicester’s Mads Hermansen a “key target”, according to ExWHUEmployee.
Writing on The West Ham Way Patreon (quotes via their website), the insider source said that the Denmark international is likely to be prioritised over other options:
“A goalkeeper is still a priority, and once more, another name we exclusively revealed is Danish keeper Mads Hermansen from Leicester, a key target.”
“The keeper signing could be sped up when confirmation is given to the new goalkeeper coaches with Linus Kandolin of Elfsborg and Casper Ankergren, who is thought to be coming from Brondby soon. They may then prioritise Hermansen as their keeper choice, it seems.”
Hermansen does have other suitors
Chelsea are known to be keen on the 24-year-old. Head coach Enzo Maresca was the one who signed him when he was Leicester manager in the summer of 2023, and he is reportedly hoping to work with him again.
A lot may depend on who is willing to match Hermansen’s £35m+ valuation. The Irons can’t plead poverty, with the club about to purchase El Hadji Malick Diouf for €25m (£21.5m) but it remains to be seen if they can lower the Foxes’ asking price.
West Ham have two alternatives lined up
If an agreement can’t be found for Hermansen, Ex mentioned that Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez and Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale (on loan) are the two other keepers that Graham Potter’s side are considering.
Potter has worked with Sanchez before during his time at Brighton, and if Hermansen does move to Stamford Bridge instead, the Blues would probably sanction the Spanish international’s departure.
In terms of Ramsdale, Southampton may only contemplate a loan deal later in the summer. The Saints are hoping to sell the 27-year-old but they may just want to get him off the club’s wage bill.
In other news, a player is “expected in London” this weekend to complete his £21.5m move to West Ham
