West Ham Are ‘Interested’ In Signing Free Agent Who Once Cost Real Madrid €60M

West Ham are one of four clubs weighing up a move for ex-Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The Serbian international is a free agent, having been released by AC Milan at the end of last season.

Estadio Deportivo claim that the Hammers, newly-promoted La Liga outfit Real Oviedo, Getafe and Mexican club Cruz Azul are all “interested” in Jovic.

It is believed that Oviedo are the club most optimistic about snapping up the 27-year-old, but they have yet to get the full approval of the player.

Jovic once cost €60m

After scoring 27 goals in 48 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt during the 2018/19 campaign, Real Madrid signed the forward for €60m.

Things didn’t work out for Jovic at the Bernabeu, and after three difficult seasons (where he spent some of his time back on loan at Frankfurt), he joined Serie A side Fiorentina on a free transfer.

In his one and only campaign with the Viola, the Serbian did catch the eye, scoring 13 times in all competitions, and it was enough for Milan to sign him before the summer 2023 transfer window closed. Unfortunately, he found game time hard to come by with the Rossoneri, and when he was left out of the Champions League squad last summer, the writing was on the wall. He is now looking for a fresh start.

West Ham may be considering alternatives to Wilson

Jovic is by no means the only free agent that the Irons have been linked with in recent weeks. Reports suggest that former Newcastle striker Callum Wilson could be brought in, while Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also come under consideration.

Out of the three, Jovic is the youngest and the least injury-prone, but since that one outstanding season for Frankfurt, he has struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
