West Ham could sign Koni De Winter and Morten Frendrup in a “double raid” for the Genoa duo, according to reports.

GiveMeSport reporter Ben Jacobs claims that De Winter is available for around €25m (£21m), but there will be competition from the likes of Tottenham and Crystal Palace for his signature.

De Winter has been on the Hammers’ radar for quite some time and they do need to strengthen their options in the middle of defence.

Even though they are signing Jean-Clair Todibo on a permanent basis from Nice this summer, head coach Graham Potter has very few other centre-backs.

Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos can also be called upon but there are reports that the pair could be let go this summer, along with Nayef Aguerd when he returns from his loan spell at Real Sociedad.

Frendrup is also being pursued

Jacobs suggests that the midfielder is another Genoa player who could make the switch to the London Stadium over the coming weeks.

Frendrup is expected to be slightly less expensive than De Winter, with his asking price reportedly set at around €20m (£17m).

Can West Ham afford to spend nearly £40m?

Any attempt to sign De Winter and Frendrup will depend on the Irons’ transfer budget. There has been a lot of talk that the club will have to sell to buy over the course of the summer.

Whether that is simply the club trying to play the role of pauper to ensure they are not taken to the cleaners by other teams, it isn’t known.

Trusted journalist David Ornstein made it clear in a Q&A with The Athletic back in March that the club would be making moves to sign new players:

“West Ham are always active in the market, especially in summer windows, and I expect them to be again this year.”
